PLGA platform

The Polylactide/glycolide (PLGA) platform represents all copolymers of lactide (in the L, D or DL form) with glycolide. Most of the commercial products that have been developed from this technology platform are either of the DL-lactide/glycolide family or of the L-lactide/glycolide family.

The DL-lactide/glycolide family of polymers is used in products that require little or no mechanical strength combined with relatively short degradation times, such as drug delivery applications. The L-lactide/glycolide family of polymers is used in products that require a specific combination of mechanical and degradation properties and is commonly found in medical device applications.
